In controlled lab and animal studies, certain immune cells exposed to vaccine components released these molecules, triggering inflammatory cascades capable of injuring heart tissue. Crucially, this response emerged in only a subset of conditions, underscoring why the complication remains uncommon and difficult to predict.

The same research found that dampening these signals reduced heart-related damage without shutting down the broader protective immune response.
