Aldi’s cart system feels brutal when you’re quarterless, but it’s really just a deposit that keeps prices down and parking lots clear. When you’re stuck, the fastest fix is human: walk inside, catch a cashier during a lull, and simply ask to borrow a quarter. Many stores expect this and would rather help you unlock a cart than watch you walk back out the door.
If that fails, you still have options. A round-head key or token can sometimes pop the mechanism, and for small trips you can skip carts completely by grabbing an empty box or a hand basket. The long-term solution, though, is the least dramatic: dedicate a single quarter or cart token to Aldi, tuck it in your car or clip it to your keys, and treat it as untouchable. One tiny habit, and that cart corral will never beat you again.
